Wings of monarchs
once gathered
from the road
after the wind
the rain
washed them down
gossamer
delicate
fluttered into a child’s hand
there is strength
in their fragility
unfurling from cocoon
to dry in sun
and take off
a flight so long
so perilous
we are reminded
we all have wings inside
gently placed
butterfly kisses
from a lover
beats of hearts for dreams
elusive ephemeral
becoming more real
with each
wing moving
forward
rising
over mountains
caught in currents
of air
the monarch’s journey
is ours
unknown
but by the inner compass
following our way
strength in
perseverance
we emerge
on the path
with flowers below
blue sky above
orange and black
monarchs
of the
sky kingdom
of possibilities
of hope
in sheltered places
of resilience
where milkweed grows
we all
feel
the wings
fluttering in our own heart
a monarch’s voyage
is our own
so spread your wings
and fly
blue skies
and flowers await
on wings of monarchs
strong
and fragile.
Beautiful Freya.
