Walking strong
one with earth
with dirt
beneath my feet
gazing up
at clouds
and birds
and trees
I rest against the trunk
solace in the strength
comfort in the smoothness
and the path beckons on
when
a coyote
emerges
its gaze
steadfast
it lacks fear
and follows
I feel my own fear
come riding up
primitive
primordial
and I walk fast
relief
sets in as distance
when I see
coyote again
I laugh now
What do you have for me?
What message do you send?
I meet a friend
and walk
again the third time
coyote there
a curious
a questing
leaping in a hunting stance
I see you
Coyote
I let your lesson
be mine
we are here together
on this hill
in this grass
by these trees
with this place
our home
together
Coyote and me.
