Light returns
slow
rising gently
in the east
it meanders across the sky
lazy lover
not quite reaching
our faces
upturned
looking
hoping
shining with the clouds
at the horizon
flames from afar
but the heat
it has gone
slow
it returns
to earth
to warm
soil
to coax the seeds
the green
tender shoots
to life
for now in this time of dark
and slow sun
we plant the seeds
for flowers that
will come
full of potential
the ideas
stirring
in dark depths
the compost
and muck
decomposing
to provide
the nutrients
to feed
the blooms and
the dreams
whispered
with longing
to only our hearts
to our lover’s ears
to the world
slowly
coming back to light
this winter’s eve
is sacred
is full
is dark
is ours
to treasure
to comfort
to contemplate
the dark night
the return of the sun
but not yet
soon
slow
those days will come
those dreams
for now the solstice wraps us in winter’s arms.
