Feet moving
here and there
eyes dart
to the horizon
hearts beat
faster
at the thought
a voyage
across the seas
a new land
enter
this journey
feet moving
restless
we came to these shores
imposing
colonizing
taking from others
and yet
we kept going
seeking gold
glory
wealth
did we find home
do we now
place roots in soil
grow
steady
stop the restless
yearning
of the soul
a nation
crafted
of immigrants
and the stories
of race
class
wealth
a value
above all else
a restless drive
for more
accumulate
when the end is met
the horizon
provides no more
where does our restless
spirit go
to technology
to improve
to make a better world
have we not learned our lesson
restless
conquers
the land
leaves it barren
with the assumption
of the right way
imposed
natives
displaced
harmed
culture
spirit
rise again
to teach us
the restless
put to rest
grounded
rooted in place
she said
we cannot leave
the land
even if the politicians
the dictators
the insurrection comes and goes
it is not an option
the land
opposes
restless
answers
with the seasons
with the growth
cycles
of life
connect
us to this place
even though
my ancestors
were restless
new places
this one now
has become
home
I plant myself
my children
on the foggy coast
and speak
my truth
of belonging
of home
of the land
that can support us all
in reciprocal responsibility
this is my answer
to the restless heart
the voyaging explorer
the new technology
rooted
settled
home.
