Hummingbird Whisper
Your wings whirr so fast
tasting nectar
from flowers
orange, purple, red
you hover
and dart
moving
and then you stop
your chest quivers
your eyes search
but for that still moment
I hear the whisper
of the hummingbird
the mystery
of your speed
your control
a design
envied by engineers
your translucent colors
flash in the passing sun
reds, greens
jewels to my eyes
I hear your wings
the buzz of life
and see
the way you eat
savoring the nectar
in sips
so rapid
so sweet
whisper
to me
hummingbird
how it feels
to dash and dart
what you see in
your eyes
of flowers
of colors
sensing
your territory
your home
you defend
like me
providing a nest
the life
for little ones
grown big
they fly away
whisper
of that loss
as you still flit and fly
nectar rich
flowers surround you
whisper
to me
of continuity
of pattern
of comfort
here
amongst
the flowers of home
I learn
from the
whispers
of
the hummingbird
still now.
