The nights are dark
long
the air cold
winter
cloaks the shadows
and yet we believe
we have faith
that the light will return
we bring in a green tree
dress it up in colors
in lights
the candles are lit
warm food cooked
family gathers
around tables
hushed in holiday hues
and we have faith
that the light will return
shining bright into shadows
that kindness
will prevail
that sickness
will be healed
that prosperity will reign
that time will move slowly
allowing space
for beating hearts
for whispered voices
for connections with friends
with lovers
faith in the present moment
now
the darkest day approaches
but knowing that time
brings light
each day
more
and we rejoice
in song
in laughter
in the ripple of conversation
around the table
with delicious food
family
and in the still night air
darkness
gathering clouds
rain hovering, waiting to fall
we rejoice at the quiet
the hum of the air
the gentle green leaves emerging
from dark soil
the white narcissus smelling sweet
the sun sets tinging the clouds
the color a kiss
from the sun
a promise to come again
an invitation
to have
faith in the light
join me on this journey
of faith
believe in the light returning
each day a little more
spinning earth
fragile cycles
plants, seeds
dormant
waiting
having the faith
in the light
like you
like me
like all of us together
having faith in the light.
